The dryer is a trans-dimensioned box
complete with foggy, topsy-turvy lens.
We lose the thread when two companioned socks
in knee-jerk fashion spin to separate ends.
Survivors are too static-y to talk
beyond the odd blue spark or errant twitch.
Beside themselves, too traumatized to walk
their lot befits old sox cast in a ditch.
Compare the washer’s spotless, upright style:
So unambiguous are whiter-whites
that socks emerge unstained by ruse or guile,
eliminating need for washer lights.
The trick becomes which leg and where to stand—
right here, left there, or on yet drier land.
