Tough Love

She made it very clear she liked it rough,
Suggesting bouts of cruel erotic play.
For me, romantic love was good enough,

But she was into more aggressive stuff
Which she demanded every single day.
She made it very clear she liked it rough,

But when I took her in the piney duff
The only thing the woman had to say
Was that my sylvan love was not enough

To satisfy her need. I called her bluff
Because the time had come for her to pay:
She made it very clear she liked it rough,

And I was now prepared to make her suf-
Fer pangs of deprivation as a way
To demonstrate my love—if not enough

To get her off, too bad I acted tough,
Regretting I must spurn an easy lay.
She made it very clear she liked it rough,
But I, her weary love, had had enough.
